Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, officially inaugurated a boxing arena and skate park situated beneath the Pasar Rebo Flyover in Ciracas, East Jakarta, Tuesday (5/19).

These facilities were made as a vibrant hub for youth creativity and serve as a strategic governmental intervention to suppress the prevalence of street brawls that have long plagued the East Jakarta region.

Pramono lauded the East Jakarta City Administration’s proactive efforts to engage and embrace youth groups frequently embroiled in such conflicts. He noted that since the introduction of these amenities, the frequency of brawls in East Jakarta has reportedly plummeted.

"Since the inception of this facility, the occurrence of brawls has diminished drastically," he remarked.

He furthered that this public infrastructure initiative serves as a pioneering blueprint for other regions. Consequently, he intends to replicate this model by constructing similar facilities in the Kampung Melayu area.

"East Jakarta is essentially a role model in this regard. It must be acknowledged that this region has historically been a hotspot for social friction on the ground," he explained.

He hoped that the proliferation of such public spaces will provide constructive outlets for the youth of East Jakarta, allowing them to channel their energy into productive endeavors. Further, Pramono envisions these young individuals taking an active role in safeguarding the city’s harmony.

East Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, reported that 132 brawl incidents were recorded across the city throughout 2025. This figure saw a significant decline in 2026, with only 55 incidents reported to date.

The high incidence of such social unrest served as the primary catalyst for the development of the boxing ring, which is intended as a dedicated athletic venue for the local youth.

"This serves as a sports facility for the residents, overseen and coached by professional boxing communities," Munjirin stated.

The boxing arena and skate park are managed professionally by local communities. He expressed his optimism that these public facilities will offer a sanctuary for the youth to manifest their creativity.

"The objective is to provide free, strategically located public sports facilities to mitigate brawling while optimizing the utilization of underutilized open spaces beneath flyovers," he concluded.
