South Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency conducted anti-rabies vaccination to 1,767 pets during April 2026.
Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Section for the Sub-agency, Irawati Harry Artharini, said the vaccinations were given for free in nine districts.
spread of rabies can be prevented
"One district, namely Kebayoran Baru, did not carry out rabies vaccination because cat sterilization activities were being run at that location," she said.
She explained that of the total number of pets vaccinated against rabies, 1,587 were cats, 150 dogs, 18 monkeys, and 12 civets.
She added that the Sub-agency also carried out a sterilization program for 488 cats, both owned and unowned.
"Sterilization is carried out to suppress the cat population, so that the potential spread of rabies can be prevented," she explained.
According to her, this effort is part of the steps to prevent the spread of rabies while maintaining Jakarta's status as a rabies-free area.
"This free rabies vaccination service provided by the government is also important to protect the health of the owner," she added.
