The South Jakarta City Administration plans to construct 100 deep infiltration wells in the Navy Staff and Command School (Seskoal) student complex area, Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama. This step is being taken to address the persistent flooding that frequently occurs in the region.
South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar stated that the construction of these infiltration wells aims to identify flood-prone points while simultaneously seeking effective solutions.
I am identifying the flood problem spots here
"I am identifying the flood problem spots here. The plan is to create infiltration wells with a depth of approximately 30 meters," he expressed, Wednesday (5/6).
Besides reducing flood risks, deep infiltration wells are expected to prevent land subsidence. To date, rainwater has generally flowed directly into rivers or streams that already have limited capacity.
According to him, this condition is exacerbated by the continuous reduction of water catchment areas due to land conversion for residential use.
"Through these wells, we hope rainwater can be absorbed into the ground. This will reduce the risk of flooding while also curbing land subsidence," he explained.
He added that the funding for the construction of these wells is intended to come from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs rather than the City Budget (APBD).
This work is planned to involve Seskoal and other related stakeholders in the area. Hopefully, this plan can be realized soon, as the Seskoal area frequently experiences flooding," he concluded.
