Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, said that the Jakarta Provincial Government has taken swift steps to mitigate the impact of flooding due to the high rainfall that has recently inundated the capital and surrounding areas.
Pramono admitted that he had instructed his staff to activate all water pumps at the affected points.

"So when the flood occurred, I immediately appealed all the pumps to be activated," said Pramono, Tuesday (5/5).
Through these mitigation efforts, he added, the flooding in several areas began to recede within three to four hours. The flooding was triggered by two main factors.
In addition to high rainfall, waste continues to hamper the effectiveness of Jakarta's drainage system. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government is intensifying sediment dredging efforts in various rivers in Jakarta, including the Krukut, Pesanggrahan, Ciliwung, and others.
Pramono also appealed to the public not to litter to minimize the impact of flooding when heavy rainfall returns.
