RW 04 administrators in Malaka Jaya Urban Village, Duren Sawit Sub-district, East Jakarta, on Sunday (5/3) began outreach on waste sorting at the source. The activity, attended by Malaka Jaya Urban Village Head Eko Purnomo Asih, is part of the Jakarta administration's ongoing campaign to reduce waste at the source.
The RW has also provided a facility to collect non-organic waste
"We highly appreciate this initiative. Moreover, the RW has also provided a facility to collect non-organic waste, making it easier for residents to take part," he said.
He hopes the initiative by RW 04 can be replicated by other RWs in the area, allowing the waste sorting program to be implemented more widely and effectively.
RW 04 Head Sularto said his team has encouraged all RT administrators, PKK, Dasawisma, Jumantik, LMK, FKDM, and local residents to begin sorting waste from their households.
"We urge all segments of the community to support waste sorting at the source. This is aimed at reducing the waste sent to Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST)," he explained.
He added that the outreach aims to educate residents on the importance of sorting waste at home, particularly organic and non-organic waste.
During the event, the RW prepared independent waste sorting facilities for distribution to RT units across RW 04 in Malaka Jaya Urban Village, with installation carried out in RT 09 where space is sufficient.
On the other hand, RT 08/04 Head Taufiq called on residents to support the program to help maintain the area clean and reduce the amount of waste sent to TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi.
"We fully support the waste sorting program and will continue to encouraging residents to make it a success," he asserted.
