The Jakarta Public Works Agency is accelerating upgrades to Jalan Rasuna Said in Kuningan, South Jakarta, following the removal of monorail pillars.

"We are optimistic the upgrades will be completed before Jakarta's anniversary on June 22,"

The upgrades aim to improve comfort, safety, and accessibility for road users and are targeted for completion ahead of Jakarta's 499th anniversary on June 22, 2026.

Head of Data and Information Center at the Jakarta Public Works Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, said the project is ongoing, with efforts focused on accelerating work on the ground.

"The acceleration is aimed at ensuring the benefits of the Jalan Rasuna Said upgrades, particularly in terms of comfort, safety, and accessibility, can be felt by the public sooner," she said on Thursday (4/30).

She said the upgrades will widen the eastern pedestrian path to four to seven meters, up from around four meters previously, in line with the road layout.

In addition to sidewalk improvements, the agency is also upgrading drainage systems to prevent flooding during rainfall.

"Drainage channels, which were previously around 80 centimeters wide, are now being expanded to 120 centimeters. This is part of efforts to ensure Jalan Rasuna Said remains free from flooding during rain," she added.

Wenny noted that although the project is still ongoing, improvements are already visible and noticeable to the public, with the former monorail pillar median now functioning as traffic lanes.

"Pedestrian paths are being improved across several sections, making them safer and more visually appealing, while utility networks are being moved underground to create a neater cityscape without overhead cables," she highlighted.

The Jakarta Public Works Agency remains optimistic that the upgrades to Jalan Rasuna Said will be completed before Jakarta's anniversary on June 22, 2026.

"In principle, we are optimistic the upgrades will be completed before Jakarta's anniversary on June 22. We also urge the public to remain cautious during the construction process," she said.
