Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno paid a visit of condolence to the home of Nuryati, a resident of Jalan Utan Panjang, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (4/28). Nuryati was one of the victims of a train collision that occurred in East Bekasi.

Besides expressing his condolences and providing emotional support, Rano also ensured that the Jakarta government would provide assistance to the victim's family.

"I saw the incident in Bekasi on television, and from that night, I ordered Jakarta to assist Bekasi. Insya Allah (God willing), the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and our Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) have been deployed to Bekasi, as well as some personnel from the Fire and Rescue Agency," he expressed.

He admitted to being quite shocked by the incident, which resulted in the destruction of the women's carriage at the rear of the commuter train. However, he remarked that the incident was a tragedy and served as a lesson for the future.

Of the 14 fatalities, he received information that four were residents of Jakarta. One of them was a teacher living in Cikarang, and the Head of Jakarta Education Agency has also visited the funeral home.

Meanwhile, the victim named Nuryati was a member of Dasawisma. Additionally, she was an active Jumantik (mosquito larvae monitoring) volunteer in her local neighborhood.

In addition to ensuring that the Parks and City Forests Agency assisted with the funeral arrangements, Rano also mentioned that the Jakarta Baznas BAZIS had provided financial aid.

"She (Nuryati) was a member of Dasawisma and a diligent Jumantik volunteer. As such, she was truly part of our family—a part of the provincial government's extended workforce," he emphasized.
