The South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency continues to intensify socialization on waste sorting to various elements of society to reduce the volume of waste disposal to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).

Head of the Sub-agency, Dedy Setiono said the socialization was targeting residential areas, government agencies, private offices, educational institutions, and the hotel, restaurant and cafe sector.

build a culture of sorting waste

"This socialization is part of an effort to build a culture of sorting waste from home or its origin source," he said Tuesday (4/28).

This step becomes increasingly important as the new policy is planned to be implemented starting August 1, 2026, where the Bantar Gebang TPST will only accept residual waste.

"Mixed waste can no longer be disposed of directly without going through a sorting process first," he added.

According to him, in the education sector, interventions are also carried out through the Adiwiyata program which focuses on developing waste management habits in the school environment, not only for students, but also for educators and canteen managers.

"For food waste in the canteen, we have recommended processing using the jumbo biopore method and the use of compost bins," he continued.

It is hoped that waste sorting will no longer be an option, but rather a shared obligation to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

"Hopefully, with this joint effort, the waste problem in Jakarta can be resolved well, as the government has also prepared strategic steps," he hoped.
