The North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency is steadily improving urban spaces, including the transformation of the area beneath the Ir Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road. The project is situated at the former Kencana illegal waste disposal site in RW 08, Sungai Bambu, Tanjung Priok.
Tanjung Priok Sub-district Parks and City Forest Executing Unit Head, Aditya Febiarizky explained that the beautification is part of the city administration's initiative to optimize spaces under highways, ensuring they are well-kept, green, and aesthetically appealing.
Helping to prevent unauthorized trash piles
"It aims to turn what was once an illegal dumping ground into a pleasant green space, helping to prevent unauthorized trash piles from returning," he stated, Tuesday (4/28).
He explained that the landscaping involves planting various types of ornamental plants, such as hanjuang kribo (Dracaena compacta) and pandan bali (Giant Dracaena).
"The landscaped area covers approximately 40 square meters, with the number of plants reaching into the thousands," he explained.
He added that the landscaping design focuses on both aesthetics and drainage. The garden features crushed stone or gravel layers to boost water absorption and add a decorative touch.
"Currently, the project is almost 90 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of the week," he noted.
He further mentioned that the project has been progressing in phases since the beginning of April 2026, with five Parks Agency personnel assigned to the site.
"We will definitely dispatch staff for regular upkeep. Nevertheless, we urge the residents to take part in preserving the greenery to ensure it stays vibrant and well-kept," he added.
This project received appreciation from locals, Leni (46).
"It’s much prettier and neater now. Our thanks to the Parks Sub-agency for turning this under-toll space into a clean and pleasant area," he asserted.
