Short Circuit Triggers Kiosk Fire in Pulo Gebang

A fire that gutted four permanent stalls on Jalan Raya Pulo Gebang, RT 01/06 in Cakung, East Jakarta, early this morning is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) Member, Sunaryo stated that the fire report was received at 12:23 AM.

"We immediately dispatched 13 fire engines and 65 personnel to take immediate action at the scene," he expressed, Thursday (4/23).

He explained that the firefighting process began at 12:29 AM and was declared fully completed by approximately 1:17 AM.

"The four burned kiosks consisted of an eatery, an electrical shop, and a shipping or logistics service," he noted.

He noted that the fire handling process went well without major hindrances. Electricity at the site was promptly disconnected by PLN personnel, and the response teams had sufficient water supply and adequate access to the scene.

"No casualties or injuries were reported. The Cakung Sector Police are currently conducting a further investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire," he added.

Cakung Sub-district Head, Rohmad added, there were 10 survivors from the fire incident. His team has coordinated with the Social Sub-agency and the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to provide assistance.

"They are currently still near the location, salvaging belongings that can still be used," he explained.

He commended the firefighters' rapid response, which successfully prevented the flames from spreading to the surrounding residential area.

"Thanks to the swift handling, the fire did not reach any residents' homes," he stated.
