Nine 'Blue Squad' personnel from the local Water Resources Executing Unit have completed 70% of the drainage channel dredging at Jalan Industri III Dalam, RT 08/14, Pademangan Barat, Pademangan Sub-district, North Jakarta.
Pademangan Sub-district Water Resources Executing Unit Head, Dewi Marlina said, Previously, the channel had become shallow due to an 80 to 90-centimeter accumulation of mud and debris. As a result, the area was susceptible to pooling during rainfall.
The mud was quite bad
"The mud was quite bad, so it flooded easily during rain," he expressed, Wednesday (4/15).
She explained, this dredging is a follow-up to a proposal submitted by residents during the Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang).
According to him, this channel is being dredged over a length of 195 meters, with a width of 80 centimeters and a depth of 110 centimeters.
"The work began on March 25 using manual methods and is targeted for completion by next week," he explained.
He expects the project to boost drainage capacity and reduce potential flooding when it rains heavily.
"So far, we have cleared 21 cubic meters, or about 2,500 sacks, of mud and trash," he added.
At the same time, Aminah (56), a resident, thanked the Pademangan Water Resources team for their work.
"We've been worried about floods because the channel was so shallow. Thankfully, it's being cleaned now. I hope it’s done soon and there will be no more flooding," she remarked.
