The West Jakarta City Administration on Monday (4/13) received disaster response equipment assistance from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

The aid, consisting of tents, life jackets, and polyethylene (PE) boats, was immediately distributed to several urban villages to add to existing equipment.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah said the additional equipment is part of disaster mitigation efforts in the area, noting that the tents can be used not only during floods but also as temporary shelters in fire emergencies.

"Hopefully, this equipment will strengthen our teams so they can respond with confidence, knowing the necessary resources are already available," she said.

Iin added that, as part of flood mitigation efforts, the administration is intensifying drainage cleaning and dredging across all sub-districts, as well as mapping drainage systems to ensure they function optimally.

She also highlighted plans to ramp up community cleanups focused on waste and sediment, involving multiple stakeholders and residents.

To mitigate fire risks, Iin said her administration will coordinate with PLN to ensure electrical networks, including household connections, are in good condition, in order to prevent short circuits that often trigger fires.

"So, in addition to improving infrastructure, we are also carrying out various preventive measures as part of mitigation efforts," she stressed.

Meanwhile, Michael Sitanggang, head of the Logistics and Equipment Subgroup at BPBD Jakarta, said life jackets were distributed to 20 urban villages in West Jakarta, with each receiving between 20 and 60 of the 660 units provided.

Polyethylene boats were distributed to four urban villages most affected by flooding: Duri Kosambi, North Kembangan, South Kembangan, and Rawa Buaya, with each receiving a 2.6-meter-long boat.

Meanwhile, 5x10 meter tents were distributed to all 56 urban villages across West Jakarta, with each unit capable of accommodating up to 30 evacuees.

"We have provided guidance to urban villages on how to store and position the equipment, so it will be ready for use when needed," he explained.
