Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, reminded and invited all elements to strengthen the Betawi cultural values ​​as the main identity of the city of Jakarta which continues to live amidst changes in civilization.

Pram made this call when opening and giving a speech at the Betawi Eid 2026 event at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, Saturday (4/11).

Betawi Eid, initiated by the Betawi Consultative Body (Bamus) and the Betawi People's Council (MKB), is a concrete manifestation of collaboration in maintaining, caring for, preserving and developing Betawi culture amidst the diversity of Jakarta City.

"Betawi Eid is not just an annual celebration, but a space of togetherness full of warmth and brotherhood," said Pramono.

In Betawi tradition, added Pramono, we are invited to forgive each other, especially parents and elders. Inviting children and grandchildren around to get to know the family and getting used to 'nyorok' or bringing delivery.

"These various traditions are the way the Betawi people instill good manners, strengthen bonds between generations and preserve their ancestral heritage so that it lives on throughout the ages," he explained.

Pram added that Jakarta received a special gift by winning second place as the safest city in ASEAN. This achievement would not have been possible without togetherness, harmony, friendship, and unity.

"As a Special Region, the city of Jakarta also has a cultural and historical identity that cannot be separated from the Betawi people," he added.

Therefore, Pram continued, getting to know Betawi culture is not enough just from arts, culture and culinary.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to revitalize the MH Thamrin Museum in the Kenari area, Central Jakarta, to become a new icon of Jakarta as a form of great respect for the city's progress," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the MKB Traditional Council, Fauzi Bowo, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Jakarta Provincial Government and City Council for their contribution to the success of the Betawi Eid 2026 celebrations.

"This activity is not just a Halal Bihalal event, but also provides an inclusive space for the people of Jakarta to enjoy the diversity of cultural attractions and typical Betawi entertainment," he stated.
