The West Jakarta City Government has closed an area of land in the Tambora Flats area, RW 11, Angke Urban Village, Tambora District, which was being used as an illegal waste disposal site (TPS). The site has recently come under scrutiny for being used by individuals to dump mountains of trash.

West Jakarta Mayor, Iin Mutmainah said currently, her staff is clearing an area of approximately 100 square meters on Jalan Angke Indah II, located on the roadside between B and C Towers of Tambora Flat.

they are no longer allowed

"After this, we have communicated to the RT/RW and urban village that they are no longer allowed to throw rubbish there," she said, Wednesday (4/8).

The closure of the illegal landfills is also an effort to anticipate the health impacts caused by waste. There are concerns that the piles of trash will negatively impact the health of residents in the surrounding area.

To ensure that no further irresponsible individuals dump trash on the site, Iin emphasized that access to the land will be closed. The Apartment Management Unit (UPRS) will restrict access, allowing only residents who have been contacted and are permitted access.

Instead, Iin admitted that she had instructed the Environmental Sub-agency to coordinate with the local neighborhood associations (RT/RW) to schedule the collection. A container will also be placed at the location to hold the waste before it is transported according to the established schedule.

"We hope the result will be cooperation and participation so that our approach is persuasive and educational so that people can change their behavior," she admitted.

Head of West Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, Hariyadi stated the neighborhood unit (RW) will be encouraged to establish a waste management unit (BPS). The four existing TPS locations will then be centralized to facilitate waste transportation and management.

"BPS RW is also required to provide an RW Waste Bank," he stated.
