The repair of the water channel on Jalan Morotai RW 05 Cideng Urban Village, Gambir, Central Jakarta which has been running since March 26, is targeted for completion in early June.

Head Section of Drainage Maintenance for Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Citrin Indriati explained normalization of the 190 meter long channel is carried out by installing 60 x 60 centimeter U-ditch concrete with a depth of 120 centimeters.

"The old 40 x 40 centimeter channel was dismantled and replaced with a larger u-ditch," she explained, Monday (4/6).

Citrin added that 15 personnel are deployed everyday.

"We are targeting completion of the work within two months or around the beginning of June," she added.

She is optimistic that the normalization of this channel will be able to overcome the flooding that often occurs around Jalan Morotai during heavy rain.

Richard (39), a local resident, appreciated the channel improvement. 

"Hopefully, after the repairs, the channel will be able to accommodate more water, so there will be no more inundation," he hoped.
