Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama imitates the steps taken by the Netherlands to overcome flooding in the capital. Geographically, the mainland Jakarta is similar with Netherlands, which is below sea level.
I am not smart, I just follow them (Netherlands). Netherlands is inundated as deep as eight meters below sea level
"I am not smart, I just follow them (Netherlands). Netherlands is inundated as deep as eight meters below sea level," said Basuki, at City Hall, Wednesday (6/8).
He disclosed, similar with them, there must dam development in the city to secure the land. The dam in question is National Capital Integrated Coastal Development Masterplan (NCICD) Type A. It is different with Giant Sea Wall.
"You have to distinguish Giant Sea Wall with dam type A. Gian Sea Wall is about a story in the upcoming 30 years," he told.
He cited the current Pluit Dam is already safe from tidal wave or rob because dike has been built.
"If the dike is not built, tidal wave will kill 15 thousand people in Pluit. Sea water is like the tsunami," he expressed.
Similar condition can also be occured in Pasar Ikan area, Penjaringan. Thus Basuki plans to develop the dike. As the initial stage, his party has relocated citizens from Pasar Ikan.
"Pasar Ikan is prone to tidal wave and cannot be sucked up from the sea, but it will hit. That's why we develop the dike. Hopefully it can be finished this year," he closed.
