The Water Resources (SDA) Agency is dredging the Pesanggrahan River, which serves as the border between Kebayoran Lama and Pesanggrahan sub-districts. The dredging aims to remove up to 36,174 cubic meters of mud sediment and waste that cause silting.

According to, Muhammad Anwar, Mayor of South Jakarta Mayor, the dredging is necessary as the riverbeds have elevated and turned into land, diverting the current and eroding the river’s right bank, which could damage the levee.

This aims to tackle flooding along the Pesanggrahan River

"This aims to tackle flooding along the Pesanggrahan River. The area is prone to flooding caused by overflow during high intensity rainfall," he noted, Monday (4/6).

He noted that optimal dredging and river normalization would provide immediate relief to residents, especially in the flood-prone IKPN Bintaro area.

Anwar explained that despite land acquisition and normalization are crucial, they are not the sole remedy. Considering that those processes take a long time, the South Jakarta City administration is prioritizing fast-acting measures to ensure residents see immediate benefits.

"Our next step is to continue dredging at other strategic points. In accordance with the Governor's instructions, we are maximizing our efforts to suppress flooding, especially in South Jakarta," he explained.

Supporting this effort, Santo, Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, noted that the work covers a 1,444-meter stretch. Five excavators are currently operating to ensure the project stays on schedule.

"It is to complete the dredging by year-end. The excavated mud will be staged at the Deplu and Rawaminyak depots before being transported to Ancol for final disposal," he affirmed.
