Ahead of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri homecoming rush, the Pulo Gadung Motor Vehicle Inspection Management Unit (UP PKB), East Jakarta, has begun conducting ramp checks on intercity and interprovincial (AKAP) buses at the Kampung Rambutan Terminal. This activity is scheduled to run from March 9-29, 2026.
We want to provide security and comfort
Head of the Pulo Gadung PKB UP, Erwansyah, said that several components that are checked included lights, brake systems, tires, wipers, horns, seat belts, emergency glass breakers, light fire extinguishers (APAR) and complete vehicle documents.
"We want to provide security and comfort for travelers traveling home through ramp checks on our Eid transportation fleet. All major vehicle components are thoroughly inspected," he said, Wednesday (3/11).
According to him, during the ramp check on March 9, 19 buses were inspected and all were found to have failed the test. The violations found were generally related to safety components, such as the lack of fire extinguishers (APAR), glass breakers, and the use of retreaded tires.
In the inspection carried out yesterday, 20 buses were inspected and one fleet was found to have passed, while 19 others did not meet the roadworthiness requirements.
"Ramp checks are conducted daily from 8 AM to 8 PM. We ask all bus companies to ensure their fleets are roadworthy and have complete vehicle registration," he appealed.
Meanwhilez Head of Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal, Revi Zulkarnain stated the vehicle inspection involved around 10 joint personnel from the Pulo Gadung UP PKB, terminal management, and the Jakarta Transportation Agency.
"We are targeting to check 40 buses everyday," he said.
The inspection covers three main aspects: first, administrative completeness, such as the vehicle inspection book, route permit, vehicle registration certificate (STNK), driver's license (SIM), and vehicle inspection card (KPS).
Second, the vehicle's primary systems, including brakes, wheels, steering, lights, and wipers. Third, safety support systems such as jacks, safety triangles, first aid kits, emergency glass breakers, and fire extinguishers.
"If the bus does not comply with the regulations, it will not be allowed to operate," he stated.
