South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar confirmed that the price increases for a number of staple foods ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah are still within reasonable limits and remain affordable for the public.

Based on food price monitoring conducted in several markets, there have been increases in several commodities, particularly chilies. However, these increases are considered within the normal range.

"Regarding prices, some have indeed increased, such as cayenne pepper and curly chili, but the increase has not yet been a spike," he said.

He added that price increases before religious holidays are commonplace, but the government continues to strive to keep prices stable.

"Therefore, with supervision carried out in modern markets and traditional markets, it is hoped that it will be able to maintain price stability in the market," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of South Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency, Ridho Sosro confirmed that he would continue to monitor food commodity prices during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr.

One of the commodities that has experienced an increase is chili, which has now reached Rp 110 thousand from the previous Rp 100 thousand per kilogram.

"Price changes are still under control," he stated.

Based on price monitoring data, IR E (IR 64) rice at the start of Ramadan was recorded at around Rp 14,917 per kilogram and had risen to Rp 15,300 per kilogram or around 3.16 percent of the highest price.

The price of shallots actually fell to Rp 52,500 per kilogram, or down 1.56 percent from the highest price, although it was still up around five percent compared to the price at the start of Ramadan.

Broiler chicken prices remained relatively stable, falling from Rp 41,667 to Rp 44,167 per kilogram. Egg prices fell from Rp 32,083 to Rp 31,333 per kilogram, or about 2.34 percent, before rising again to Rp 31,833 per kilogram.

The price of beef, which was at Rp 138,333 at the start of Ramadan, increased to Rp 142,857 per kilogram, or around 3.27 percent, and at the end of the period was around Rp 141,667 per kilogram.

Bulk cooking oil recorded a slight increase from Rp 20,500 per liter to Rp 20,667 per liter or around 0.81 percent.

"Overall, despite increases in some commodities, prices tended to return to near average levels at the end of the period. Therefore, no special intervention measures were required," he said.
