Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung visited Dodol Betawi Nyak Mai, a traditional Betawi dodol production center, in Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (3/6).

"...this is a traditional culinary product that should be improved, including more appealing packaging,"

In an effort to preserve traditional Betawi cuisine, Pramono said Betawi dodol will be served at events held at Jakarta City Hall.

During the visit, the governor was accompanied by Fauzi Bowo, chairman of the Customary Council of the Betawi Community Forum and former Jakarta governor.

Upon arriving at the site, Pramono not only observed the production process but also tried stirring the dodol mixture in a large wok. He said Betawi dodol carries its own philosophy, reflecting the spirit of mutual cooperation.

"I was invited to stir the dodol earlier, and it turns out it's not easy. But I'm very impressed because for Betawi residents, dodol is actually part of the tradition of mutual cooperation," Pramono said.

The dodol-making process takes around 8 to 10 hours. Pramono said he had previously tasted Nyak Mai Betawi dodol, which he described as delicious with a chewy texture.

The current owner of Nyak Mai dodol represents the second generation of the family business, and the governor urged that its distinctive quality be maintained.

"We hope modernization can be introduced without losing the traditional elements that define this place," Pramono asserted.

Pramono also expressed readiness to facilitate modernization of the Betawi dodol processing equipment. He hopes the traditional Betawi culinary heritage will maintain its quality while featuring more attractive packaging.

"I believe this is a traditional culinary product that should be improved, including more appealing packaging, so that anyone visiting Jakarta will want to try Nyak Mai dodol," he noted.

The governor's visit to Jagakarsa is part of the city's effort to empower MSMEs based on local wisdom. In accordance with Law (UU) No. 2/2024, Pramono emphasized that Betawi culture is now recognized as the primary cultural foundation of Jakarta.
