Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has highlighted the prevalence of "shadow terminals" (illegal bus stops), which are seeing higher passenger volumes than official terminals ahead of the Idulfitri homecoming (mudik) season.

To handle this, Pramono will crack down on operations to curb these unofficial terminals, ensuring the safety and comfort of homebound travelers.

"Regarding these terminals that are seeing more traffic, we will be taking firm action to bring them under control," he said, at Pancoran Chinatown Point Mall in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, Wednesday (3/4).

According to him, the buildup of passengers at unofficial pick-up points cannot go unchecked. Consequently, both the public and transport operators are urged to comply with regulations by operating only out of the official terminals provided by the government.

"We call on everyone to use the official terminals," he asserted.

To facilitate the annual homecoming, the government is providing travel assistance for approximately 26,500 residents this year. All departures under this program are guaranteed to utilize official transportation and authorized terminals.

"This includes the upcoming exodus, for which Jakarta has committed to assisting 26,500 travelers. We will strictly ensure the use of official transportation and terminals," he noted.

Nonetheless, he noted that pick-up and drop-off points outside of terminals remain an option, provided they have secured official authorization from the Jakarta government.

"Unless they have obtained approval or a permit from the Jakarta government. For instance, locations like Monas can be utilized," he stressed.
