Amidst shifting and unpredictable global dynamics, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has underscored the importance of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and unity as the primary bulwark for the capital’s stability.

He delivered these remarks during an Iftar (fasting break) gathering with the Betawi People’s Council (MKB) at the Tangkuban Perahu Great Mosque in Setiabudi, South Jakarta on Tuesday (3/3).

Communal solidarity are paramount in our collective effort to safeguard Jakarta

"The current global landscape is far from ideal. In light of these challenges, togetherness and communal solidarity are paramount in our collective effort to safeguard Jakarta," he stated.

Pram hoped that the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East would not result in a negative fallout for Indonesia, particularly the capital.

Further, he emphasized that Betawi culture constitutes the very soul of Jakarta. He expressed conviction that by empowering the Betawi community through unity, the positive ripple effects would be felt by all residents across the city.

The Jakarta government remains committed to revitalizing Betawi heritage by integrating traditional arts and cultural performances into every official event.

Pramono also aims to elevate the prestige of Betawi culture. He voiced his vision for iconic traditions, such as the ondel-ondel giant puppets, to transition from the streets to take center stage on international platforms.

The he has earmarked approximately Rp 15 billion for the revitalization of the Husni Thamrin Museum. This is designed to provide the younger generation, particularly students, with an opportunity to draw inspiration from the tenacity and grit of Betawi figures who helped shape Jakarta.

To rekindle religious and cultural traditions, he also plans to launch Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) competitions. These Quranic recitation contests will be held from the grassroots (sub-district) level up to the provincial stage, with participants vying for the prestigious Governor’s Cup.

"I sincerely call upon your support and cooperation, as I am convinced that the MKB will play a pivotal role in this journey," he stated.

Against this backdrop, he urged the Betawi People’s Council to forge stronger bonds of harmony and solidarity to uplift the community and drive its progress.

Besides these initiatives, the Governor plans to institutionalize an annual commemorative service (haul) to pay tribute to Betawi religious scholars who have made pivotal contributions to Jakarta’s cultural landscape. The event is set to take place every June at the iconic National Monument (Monas).
