Jakarta City Council's Commission B Deputy Chairman, Wahyu Dewanto supports the plan to transform 153 markets in Jakarta into more than just places for economic transactions, but also centers for cultural and social activities, as well as world-class tourist destinations. This effort is considered crucial to strengthening Jakarta's position as a global city.

"The Governor's efforts to transform 153 markets in Jakarta so that they are not only places for economic transactions, but also develop into centers for cultural and social activities and world-class tourist destinations need to be supported," he said, Tuesday (2/24).

According to him, market transformation is no simple task. Without strong support from various parties, the program will be difficult to realize.

"The strategies to be implemented include various aspects, starting from improving physical infrastructure, eliminating thuggery, accelerating digitalization to increase non-cash transactions, to providing adequate access to public transportation," he added.

He assessed that this improvement does not only concern the market environment, but also involves many stakeholders, both from within the Jakarta Provincial Government and external parties.

Commission B, he continued, will support, accompany, and oversee the transformation process to ensure its continuity. Wahyu stated that program implementation must be carried out through planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating periodically.

He detailed that these 153 markets are spread across almost all areas of Jakarta. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government can start with several strategic locations as pilot projects or quick wins.

Wahyu emphasized that this transformation cannot rely solely on Perumda Pasar Jaya. Market management must involve various agencies and relevant stakeholders. Nevertheless, Perumda Pasar Jaya is still required to improve internal governance as a demonstration of its commitment to supporting this major change.

"The sincerity of all parties will ultimately give strong support so that this transformation can be realized soon," he emphasized.
