Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission D Chair Yuke Yurike voiced confidence that the Semanggi Park development could emerge as a new Jakarta icon, citing the area's strategic location and strong tourism potential.

"The groundbreaking will be carried out with very thorough planning,"

According to Yuke, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the project will begin with careful planning and will not use the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD).

"The groundbreaking will be carried out with very thorough planning and without using the APBD at all. We certainly hope the project runs according to plan and can be completed next year for the public to enjoy," she noted on Monday (2/23).

She hopes the area will enhance the city's landscape, add comfortable public space, and strengthen Jakarta's image as a global city with leading destinations.

Responding to concerns over congestion and limited parking space, Yuke explained that the Semanggi Park development concept is designed to encourage the use of public transportation. However, she acknowledged that parking facilities still need to be considered.

"Parking pockets could be provided or coordinated with nearby buildings. That way, people can still access the area, whether by public transportation or private vehicles," she said.

Yuke also urged that access to the area be made more pedestrian-friendly, from well-organized sidewalks to strong transport connectivity, to further encourage public transport use.

She pointed out that the development is expected to complement earlier urban improvements. With more effective management, Semanggi Park could become one of Jakarta's new icons.

"If access is comfortable, people will naturally prefer public transportation. So even if parking is a bit farther away, it won't be an issue as long as the walk is pleasant and well-arranged," she added.
