Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has affirmed that operating hours of padel courts in densely populated areas will soon be regulated.

He made the statement in response to public controversy over noise caused around the padel facilities.

"So, for locations in densely populated areas, we will regulate their operating hours," Pramono stated at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (2/23).

He said that he has received complaints from residents in several areas, including Haji Nawi, Cilandak, and Rawamangun. Residents in those neighborhoods have complained that games often continue late into the night, disrupting their rest.

"And I'm sure that residents living near the padel courts are very disturbed. There's even a case of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby who can't sleep because people are still shouting while playing padel late at night. In my view, that's not fair," he emphasized.

To address the issue, Pramono will hold a special meeting at City Hall to discuss licensing and technical coordination related to padel court facilities. The meeting aims to accommodate public enthusiasm for the sport while ensuring local residents' comfort.

"Tomorrow, City Hall will specifically hold a meeting on padel. I've asked those responsible for issuing permits and coordinating padel operations to make the necessary preparations," he asserted.

Pramono also reminded court operators to prioritize tolerance toward surrounding communities. According to him, sports activities should not come at the expense of neighborhood peace and quiet.

"Of course, while this sport is becoming a favorite among many people in Jakarta, it must also show tolerance toward nearby residents," he added.

He noted that if padel facilities are located in commercial areas, their operating hours are unlikely to disturb the public. However, if they are situated in densely populated neighborhoods, the Jakarta administration has an obligation to step in if residents' comfort is disrupted.

"But if it's in a densely populated area and it disturbs residents, they won't feel comfortable playing either. And it is the duty of the Jakarta government to regulate that," Pramono stressed.
