Dozens of personnel were deployed to handle collapsed and broken walls at RPTRA Bhineka, Jalan Swadarma Raya, Petukangan Utara Urban Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta.
The water level was quite high
Head of Petukangan Utara Urban Village, Ahmad Hasan Husaini said heavy rain caused the Uangan River to overflow until the RPTRA walls were unable to hold back the water.
"The water level was quite high and strong. The wall adjacent to the embankment finally couldn't withstand the pressure and collapsed around 5 AM," he said, Friday (2/20).
According to him, the initial step taken was to create a temporary embankment using sandbags to prevent water from overflowing onto roads and residential areas.
"We made a temporary embankment using sandbags so that the flooding would not spread to the roads and people's houses," he added.
Meanwhile, Pesanggrahan District's Water Resource Field Coordinator, Halim, explained there were 40 joint personnel deployed to work on the temporary handling.
"It is hoped the work will be completed today," he explained.
Considering that rain continues to pour down on Jakarta and the water level of the Uangan River is not yet stable, temporary handling is the main priority to prevent wider impacts.
