Approximately 10,000 runners packed the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area in Central Jakarta to participate in the Soekarno Run Runniversary 2026, Sunday (2/15).

The race, which featured 5K and 10K categories, was officially kicked off by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.

Pramono stated that the event is more than just a sports competition; it is a national movement aimed at reviving the core values of Indonesia’s founding father, Bung Karno—namely self-reliance, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), and a commitment to the people.

"Jakarta government fully supports the Soekarno Run as an inclusive and healthy public sporting event that carries national values, aligning with Jakarta’s vision as a cultured global city," he expressed.

He highlighted the immense public enthusiasm, noting that the 10,000-strong turnout proves Bung Karno’s legacy remains relevant and beloved across generations. The event also included a "10K Student" category, offering educational scholarships to podium finishers as a form of support for education and future leadership.

Soekarno Run Runniversary 2026 Committee Chairman, Muhammad Syaeful Mujab explained that the event serves as a meeting point between history and the future.

"We didn't just want to host a sporting event; we wanted to provide an experience where 10,000 runners could directly feel the spirit of Bung Karno," he concluded.
