Ten 'Blue Squad' personnel from the Matraman Water Resources Unit (SDA) have been deployed to repair a collapsed retaining wall along the Utan Kayu River (also known as Kali Namru) in East Jakarta.
The collapse, measuring four meters long and two meters deep, has significantly undermined the adjacent inspection road.
Restore the damaged structure to its original state
Further, a 10-meter-long crack has emerged on the sidewalk, prompting officials to close the road to prevent accidents.
Matraman Sub-district Head, Muhammad Husnul Fauji stated that the retaining wall gave way last Tuesday (2/3) following a heavy downpour. Fortunately, as the area was deserted at the time, no casualties or injuries were reported.
"We have dispatched a team of 10 Blue Squad personnel to restore the damaged structure to its original state," he noted, Thursday (2/5).
According to him, repair work has been underway since Wednesday (2/4) and is slated for completion within the next week, provided that weather conditions remain favorable.
"We strongly advise residents to avoid the affected area, especially those on motorcycles, as the ground remains unstable and hazardous," he warned.
Regarding the road cracks and subsidence, Fauji noted that the sub-district office has coordinated with the Matraman Public Works Unit to expedite repairs.
"We hope the necessary work can be finalized swiftly to restore safety and accessibility for both motorists and pedestrians," he hoped.
Matraman Public Works Unit, Nessy Octavia added that road restoration is slated to commence only after the retaining wall repairs are fully completed.
"We have already assessed the extent of the damage and prepared all the necessary materials to begin work," she clarified.
Local Community Leader, Ruslan Catur Prasetyo praised the swift response to the damage.
"I look forward to the road repairs being finalized quickly, as this is a critical access point for residents in three separate community units. It is the primary link for anyone traveling to Jangkrik Market," he concluded.
