Eight personnel from the Penjaringan Water Resources Executing Unit (SDA) in North Jakarta are dredging a drainage channel on Jalan Terusan Bandengan, Pejagalan, as a flood-prevention measure.

Penjaringan Sub-district SDA Executing Unit Head, Pendi stated that the desilting is necessary as the channel has become shallow due to significant mud and trash buildup.

We expect to wrap up the work by the end of this week

"The section being cleared is approximately 300 meters long and 80 centimeters wide. Currently, sediment and debris have reached a thickness of 35 centimeters, causing the drain to silt up," he expressed, Wednesday (2/4).

He explained that the dredging has been underway since January 26, 2026, with a dedicated team of eight personnel. On average, personnel are hauling away four to five cubic meters of sediment daily.

"The project is currently 50% complete, with a total of 25 cubic meters of sediment removed so far. Barring any setbacks, we expect to wrap up the work by the end of this week," he explained.

Pendi added that the drainage system was formerly an asset of the Puri Mansion developer. However, following its formal handover to the Jakarta government, its upkeep and maintenance now fall under the local authority's jurisdiction.

"By clearing this channel, we aim to restore it to peak efficiency, thereby improving the residential environment and minimizing the risk of waterlogging and floods," he continued.

The work above received appreciation from a local resident, Saputra (44).

"We hope these desilting efforts will be scaled up and conducted on a regular basis throughout Penjaringan to keep the neighborhood safe and comfortable," he concluded.
