BPS Reports Jakarta Experienced 0.23 Percent Deflation in January 2026

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Jakarta recorded that the Jakarta economy experienced deflation of 0.23 percent (month-to-month) in January 2026.

Kadarmanto explained that the main commodities contributing to deflation in January 2026 were red chilies (0.09 percent); broiler chicken (0.07 percent); shallots (0.06 percent); and cayenne pepper (0.04 percent).

Meanwhile, the transportation group is dominated by gasoline with a contribution of 0.05 percent.

He added that commodities experiencing inflation, thus reducing the rate of deflation in January 2026, included gold jewelry with a contribution of 0.12 percent, and kale, donuts, spinach, and foreign language courses, each with a contribution of 0.01 percent.

"Other groups contributing to inflation in January 2026 included personal care and other services with a contribution of 0.12 percent," he added.

According to him, the annual inflation rate in January 2026 was recorded at 3.96 percent, much higher than the inflation rate for the same month in 2025 of 0.14 percent.

"The main commodities contributing to inflation which have a high share in annual inflation are in four groups, namely housing, water, electricity and household fuel at 2.46 percent," he stated.
