Although West Jakarta has tried various ways to overcome waste problem by building hundreds of waste banks, but it is still unoptimal. This is because, only 61 out of 156 waste banks are active.
"Household waste can also be processed into compost that have economic value"
Head of West Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Anggiat Togatorop mentions the waste bank is made to minimize waste volume by involving local people. The way is people can process it through 3R program 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle'.
“Household waste can also be processed into compost that have economic value,” he said, Tuesday (4/28).
According to Togatorop, the bank customer will receive reward around 15-20 percent for waste bank operational.
Moreover, he appreciated on the effective operation of some waste banks. These banks are located in Delima Putih at RW 03 Kosambi Urban Village, Ciliber at RW 04 Kedoya Utara Urban Village, and Gria Resik in Kebersihan Bambu Larangan Flat.
Regarding the other 95 ineffective waste banks, he admitted he has not known its cause. Yet he promised to add more waste bank and encourage people to participate in solving waste problem.
“Waste bank was formed independently, so it depends on its people whether they intend to develop it or not. The point is, we we'll try our best to redevelop and reactivate the ineffective waste banks, considering it is very good to handle waste problem in West Jakarta,” he disclosed.
