The condition of Mookevart River which strewn by trashes and water hyacinths is complained by the residents living in RW 01, Semanan Urban Village, Kalideres Sub-District, West Jakarta. The reason they complained is because the trashes and water hyacinths are piling up under Pesakih Bridge on Mookevart River, thus water flow becomes clogged and causes flooding.

“It’s been three weeks the trashes and water hyacinths on the river not cleaned. As a result, our settlement becomes flooded for as high as 40 centimeters and not receding,” said RW 01 Chief, Ihsan, Friday (2/7).

Ihsan hopes for related unit to immediately pick up the trashes and water hyacinths. If not, his area is prone to flood up to one meter high.

Meanwhile, Head of Semanan urban Village, Abdul Karim Yunus, admitted that his party has reported the condition of Mookevart River, which strewn by trashes and water hyacinths, to related unit. But until not, there is no follow up yet.

Responding this matter, Head of West Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Wahyu Pujiastuti, stated that the handling of trashes and water hyacinths on Mookevart River is not her department’s authority. According to her, it is the responsible of Jakarta Cleanliness Department Parks and Rivers Technical Implementation Unit (UPT).

“Indeed, rivers must sterile from trashes and water hyacinths. So for Mookevart River’s handling, I will coordinate the matter with that UPT to clean the river immediately,” she finished.
