" It is a part of our efforts in Jakarta to make this city becomes more environmentally friendly"
Starting early July, Jakarta Government bans the use of disposable plastic bags at shopping centers, supermarkets, and traditional markets in Jakarta after socializing the regulation for the past 6 months.
"This regulation (Pergub No. 142/2019) is effective starting July 1. It means all shops, both supermarkets, traditional markets, and shopping centers should provide eco-friendly shopping bags," stated Anies Baswedan, Jakarta Governor in the press conference held at Jakarta City Hall, as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release, Wednesday (7/1).
He reiterated Jakarta Government's commitment to transform Jakarta into more environmentally friendly. It can be realized through joint collaboration by ensuring that in every activities, people shouldn't leave a lot of waste, especially waste that can't be recycled.
"It is a part of our efforts in Jakarta to make this city becomes more environmentally friendly and people's activities shouldn't leave lot of waste that can't be recycled. If it is pilling up, it can cause problems, not only for us, but also our next generations. Thus we need to change our habits and care for the sustainable development in Jakarta," he asserted.
He also hopes that all components in the society can actively participate in enforcing KBRL regulations, not only rely on officers to enforce the related Pergub, thus it could build awareness to bring their own eco-friendly shopping bags.
"Besides our personnel, we will encourage all components of the communities to be proactive in monitoring the implementation. Satpol PP and LH personnel in the regions will also monitor its implementation. So we hope this regulation can make Jakarta becomes more environmentally friendly," he stated.
