The mud dredging process in the Ria Rio Reservoir that has been ongoing since last February has reached 40 percent.
It is also carried out to minimize flooding on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan and residential areas in Kayu Putih
Every day, seven heavy equipments are deployed to dredge the reservoir, which covers about eight hectares with approximately six meters depth.
East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency's Maintenance Division Head Puryanto said that dredging was done to accommodate water in large quantities when rain pours.
"It is also carried out to minimize flooding on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan and residential areas in Kayu Putih," he said, Wednesday (6/10).
He added it was actually targeted to be completed
within four months but impossible due to COVID-19."So we target it at least by the end of this year," he closed.
