Jakarta Bureau of Mental and Spiritual Education (Dikmental) have called on all Muslims in Jakarta to conduct Eid al-Fitri prayers at home due to the pandemic in the capital.

"Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) have also issued a fatwa on the matter, allowing Eid al-Fitr prayers at home in areas where COVID-19 has spread uncontrollably," said Jakarta Dikmental Head, Hendra Hidayat, Tuesday (5/19).
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC) Greater Mosque, which is located on Jalan Kramat Jaya Koja in North Jakarta, would not hold Eid al-Fitr prayers as in previous years.
JIC Management Agency Da'wah Sub-division Head Ma'arif Fuadi expressed, it was based on MUI Fatwa number 28/2020 on Guidance on Takbir and Eid al-Fitr Prayers Amid COVID-19 and Religion Minister's Circular Letter number 6/2020 on Guidelines for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1441 Hijri Amid COVID-19, Jakarta MUI Taushiyah number T-005/DP-P/XI/V/2020 on the Implementation of Eid al-Fitr Prayers Amid COVID-19, as well as the joint decision of Jakarta MUI and DMI.
"The virus case in the area at the JIC Greater Mosque is quite high. That's why we decided not to hold Eid al-Fitri prayers at mosque and urge all Muslims to do it at home," he closed.
