Natural Factors, Cause of Collapsed Block G Building’s Facade

The cause of collapsed facade of City Hall Block G building from 22nd floor around 6.40 PM, Thursday (8/28), finally began to unfold. After passing through investigation process for almost a month, the police concluded that natural factors as the cause of the incident.

Central Jakarta Resort Police Detective and Criminal Unit Chief Adj. Sr. Cmr. Tatan Dirsan said the police have questioned the witnesses, done crime scene investigation, and done laboratory examination by involving Police Headquarter Forensic Laboratory.

“The collapse of aluminum composite panel (ACP), ACP frame, and ACP fins of City Hall Block G building was caused by natural factors,” he stated, Thursday (10/2).

Thereby, the investigation on this case was terminated since September 20. As for the witnesses questioned were Head of Jakarta General Bureau Agustino Darmawan, Head of Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Department Yonathan Pasodung, President Director of PT Jaya Konstruksi Mangala Pratama, and City Hall Security (Pamdal) officer Agung Prasetyo.

Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta General Bureau, Agustion Darmawan, told that the police line around the scene has been removed. In addition, the repair of the facade will be conducted by PT Jaya Konstruksi Manggala Pratama as the building contractor.

“Based on the investigation results, the facade's corrosion was fragile and could not hold the load. Thus, some bolts were loose. For the repair, it is in accordance to the instruction of Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Department. The construction will be made lighter and bolts made specifically to be stronger,” he uttered.
