The Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting to build 60-kilometer sidewalks in Jakarta every year, which aims to encourage people to use public transportation and improve air quality.

We do this to soon realize the initial goal of encouraging people to use public transportation

City Secretary Saefullah said it is compliance with the 2017-2022 mid-term regional development plan (RPJMD). In 2017, the city already had the sidewalk as long as 78 kilometers and sidewalk as long as 118 kilometers in 2018. This year, they have made the sidewalk as long as 67 kilometers.

"All this time we always exceed the target. We do this to soon realize the initial goal of encouraging people to use public transportation," he expressed, at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (10/23).

Thus far the city prioritizes sidewalk development in locations that are included in Transit Oriented Development (TOD). It is acted to support and facilitate public mobility in using public transportation.

"In 2020, we will execute it on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Rasuna Said and other protocol roads. It is because there will be LRT from Cawang until Kuningan. So we facilitate people to use public transportation," he stated.
