The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency applies five concepts in arranging sidewalks in the capital. Those concepts are Complete Street, Rightsizing Street, Coordination, Right Function and Collaboration.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Hari Nugroho said Complete Street concept is a planning concept with an ideal and complete division of road functions.

"The ideal and complete arrangement of road functions includes vehicle lanes, bike lanes, green belts, pedestrians, street furniture and accessories such as street lights, plants and benches. It also includes utility network arrangement such as ducting system," he expressed, at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (10/21).

Rightsizing Street concept is the concept of rearranging the road space with the consistency of the lane. So, it is not narrowing the road, but made a lane consignment.

Right Function concept, he furthered, is the implementation of the arrangement of road space to the right function. That means the sidewalk is the right of pedestrians.

"While for additional functions, we adjust it," he told.

There is also Coordination concept that is coordinating with related institutions, including socialization, control, relocation and security.

"Regarding the walking space, there are those affected by relocation and control. It requires coordination," he told.

It involves various communities, activists, experts, observers, institutions, etc. Every idea must start with collaboration.

"After making an idea or a plan, we see what needs to be done and then translated with narration and action," he uttered.

He asserted the things that need to be maintained are the characteristics of pedestrian movements, integration between transportation modes, environmental conditions, road functions or types of users, as well as the creation of interaction spaces or third rooms.

Several priority locations in the sidewalk arrangement include areas around the terminal, train stations (MRT, LRT, and KRL), around Transjakarta bus stops, commercial and office areas, tourist destination sites and residential areas until public transportation.

"Herein we also develop third room such as a cultural spot," he closed.
