" We appreciate the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, which has successfully held the U20 Summit"
Ending the activities at U20 Summit, the governors and mayors handed the Joint Communique to Argentine President, Mauricio Macri. The Joint Communique will then be discussed at the G20 meeting in the forthcoming November.
Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, appreciated all the U20 Summit activities that brought the leaders of the G20 big cities in the context of discussions to get formulas or solutions related to urban problems.
"We appreciate the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, which has successfully held the U20 Summit," he expressed, Thursday (11/1).
Anies explained that inequality between countries is currently limited. Yet, inequality in urban areas is widening and is a challenge for all cities in the world.
"80 percent of GDP growth is produced in urban areas, and more than 50 percent of the world's population lives in urban areas. Therefore, we need to have a practical solution together at the U20 that can be run together," he stated.
He added that the big city leaders present at the U20 Summit agreed to propose a follow-up in the form of more practical joint work regarding climate change and social integration.
"We want the U20 member cities to have a stronger bargaining position in resolving the two big problems," he stated.
As reported earlier, in the U20 Summit, Anies acted as one of the panelists and held a number of bilateral meetings. He was also awarded the Honorary Guest of Buenos Aires.
