The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD)'s Commission D responded to the parking disincentive plan in the form of applying the highest parking fee for vehicles that have not undergone or have failed the emission tests in Jakarta.

Make this momentum to make Jakarta's air cleaner

According to Nova Harivan, Vice Chairwoman of Jakarta DPRD's Commission D, the parking disincentive plan is one of the interventions to tighten emission testing which is quite strategic in improving air quality in Jakarta. Yet, there was a need for a review by the executive and the legislature before it was imposed.

"It's good to push vehicle owners to undergo emission tests. But, we need to pay attention again to the volume of vehicles in Jakarta. So, this needs to be reviewed thus no one is harmed," she stated, Friday (8/5).

It was hoped that it would not become a new issue for Jakarta, such as the illegal parking of vehicles that had failed the test. But it became an effective solution to improve air quality.

"Yesterday, we experienced a decrease in air quality so hopefully parking disincentives can be a joint solution," she stressed.

Commission D Member Dedi Supriadi sent a positive signal on this policy. He assessed it could prompt vehicle owners to conduct emission tests for better air quality.

"Make this momentum to make Jakarta's air cleaner," he stated.

As for the information, as many as 1,328 parking locations managed by third parties in Jakarta already have the policy.
