William Aditya Sarana, a Commission A legislator of the Jakarta City Council (DPRD), urged authorities to ensure optimal traffic engineering during the closure of several sections of Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta.

The road closure is being carried out by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) to support the water pump system project in the area.

William said traffic management must be carefully planned because Jalan Daan Mogot has long been known as one of the congestion hotspots in West Jakarta.

"Therefore, traffic engineering and road closures must be planned seriously and implemented properly. Traffic congestion is inevitable, so mitigation measures must be prepared to prevent it from becoming too severe. Moreover, if everything goes according to plan, the closure could last until next year," he explained on Sunday (5/24).

He also encouraged the Jakarta Provincial Government to improve public transportation services during the construction period. According to William, improving fleet availability and service frequency could help reduce the use of private vehicles.

"One possible solution is increasing the frequency of Transjakarta and Jaklingko services operating along Jalan Daan Mogot while the construction is underway," he added.

William stressed that the Jakarta administration should not only ask residents to reduce private vehicle usage, but also provide adequate transportation alternatives.

"Residents should not simply be told to reduce private vehicle use to avoid traffic while the administration itself offers no solution," he asserted.

In addition, William reminded authorities to ensure the water pump system project is completed on schedule and does not drag on.

"If the project is scheduled to run only until next year, then the work should also be completed by next year. The traffic engineering and road closures cannot be prolonged for too long," he said.
