The condition of the connecting channels and dams in North Jakarta is very worrying. Water hyacinth plants have been fouled them and disrupted the function.
Based on beritajakarta.com
observations, water hyacinth plants have polluted the Cincin and Pluit Dams. Similar condition also happens in Kanal Lagoa River, Koja, and Arcadia Kelapa Gading connecting channel.
Herdiansyah, (30), a citizen of RW 01, Koja Urban Village, said that over the past few months, water hyacinth plants are very rampant in Lagoa Kanal River. As a result, its existence has covered part of the river as long as 100 meters near Permai Bridge.
"I hope the river can be cleaned up routinely. If not, it could become mosquito breeding and cause waste piles," he expressed, Monday (3/24).
Responding on this matter, North Jakarta Mayor, Heru Budi Hartono stated that the solution is not only depending on manual way. "Hence, I have a concept, which is by using a grinding machine that could grind the plants," he told.
He assessed that grinding machine is a breakthrough, considering the use of human labor is deemed unoptimal.
"The provision of the grinding machine planned to be proposed to the Development Planning Board (Bappeda), where its price reaches Rp 3-5 billion per unit. If it was not realized, we would get more complaints from citizens in the future," he asserted.
