As many as 25 illegal buildings occupied by 30 households standing on the banks of Sentiong River, RT 17/05, Sunter Agung Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-District, were demolished by officers of Jakarta Dam and River Normalization, Tuesday (2/18).
Such demolishment was blocked by residents with the reason is not ready to move out of their rented houses. Around 3.30 PM, 10 households then had to block the becho which will be used to demolish the building. Even, some try to block while shouting and carrying wooden sticks.
Coordinator of Dam and River Normalization, Heriyanto said that his side continues to normalize Sentiong River, including demolish buildings around the river. "Our plan gets rejection from locals. After giving a direction, they just resigned," he expressed, Tuesday (2/18).
From 30 households, he continued, 20 out of them have tidied their belongings and the rest 10 people still refuse the demolishment. After going through persuasive approach, they accept it. "Tomorrow, the construction of inspection roads and dam as long as 750 meters will be carried out," he told.
Lastri, (30), one of local residents admitted that she and other residents refused the demolishment as a cry for somewhere else to live. Meanwhile, the owners of the building have been relocated to Komarudin Flats in Pulogebang, Cakung, East Jakarta. "Yet, we just got the compensation and do not know where we have to find the place for live," she explained.
