Jakarta Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) held a sudden inspection (sidak) to modern market in Tebet area, South Jakarta.

" We test out 20 samples of food products. As a result, there is only one containing borax"

According to Yayan Cahyani, Section Head of Certification and Consumer Information Service, from the 20 food samples tested contained a product known to contain borax.

"We test out 20 samples of food products. As a result, there is only one containing harmful preservatives," he stated, Wednesday (8/30).

His party immediately burned the dangerous food products and warned the market management not to sell it anymore.

"They promise not to sell it. If the case is still found, we will give the strict sanction," he asserted.

Sisca Maya Kadang, Head of South Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Dept. (KUKMP) asserted that her sub-dept. did not have authority to follow up on the findings, as the food products containing borax originated outside Jakarta.
